Non-Surgical Facelift with Eurothreads
Over time, and with exposure to gravity and UV light, our faces and necks accumulate damage in the form of “photoaging” and aging in general. Skin is composed of three layers: the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The dermis contains proteins, including collagen, elastin, and other important fibers, which affect skin’s strength and elasticity. UV radiation and oxidative stress injure these important proteins, leading to the accumulation of damage in the form of wrinkles, drooping skin, broken blood vessels, mottled pigment, and sun spots, while gravity leads to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, allowing skin to droop and sag.
While we have been very pleased with the results that we are able to achieve with our current anti-aging therapies at RevIVe, including neurotoxins (Dysport/Botox), laser resurfacing (CO2), IPL, and facial fillers, until now, we have not been able to truly “lift” lax tissue of the lower face and neck. The field of dermal threading has revolutionized the “non-surgical facelift” movement!
Eurothreads are composed of natural biodegradable substances, either polydioxanone (PDO) or poly-L lactic acid (PLLA). These threads are completely resorbed and incorporated into the tissue matrix within 6 months; the dermis uses these threads as a matrix scaffold to build collagen and elastin, tightening the skin.
A free consult is always recommended prior to booking so that the client’s areas of concern can be examined, and a plan for treatment developed. Threading can involve the insertion of as few as two threads on each side, to as many as 10-15 threads per side, so we like to discuss all available options with the clients ahead of their scheduled procedure!
Prior to treatment, the area is numbed with cream for approximately 20 minutes. We mark treatment areas with a wax pencil, and a small amount of lidocaine is injected at the entry site for comfort. A needle “loaded” with the thread is then introduced along a lift line; once fully introduced, the “anchor” is set with a simple rotation of the needle, and the needle is withdrawn, leaving the thread behind and in place. The thread is cut at the skin’s surface and disappears down under the skin. This is repeated for each site treatment is desired. Depending on number of threads desired, treatment time is approximately 20 min-1 hour.
The results of thread lift are immediately visible, before you leave! Bruising may occur; to decrease risk, we recommend discontinuing anti-inflammatories and fish oil/omegas one week prior to treatment. Arnica may be purchased from Amazon to take prior to treatment to minimize bruising risk. The treated area will feel tight and sore afterwards; Tylenol is generally all that is required to help with post-procedure pain. We strongly discourage any strenuous activity for approximately 7 days post-procedure to avoid “popping” a thread. If the lower face is lifted, clients may experience tightness in their jaw when talking/eating. You may feel the thread under the surface of the skin for the first couple of weeks; this is normal.
